Radio shack metal detectors
In 1921, two brothers started a small company which was supposed to be just a store providing equipment for amateur radio, or ham radio, as the popular name goes, and named it Radio Shack, because that was the name of the radio equipment rooms on ships. They felt that the pun was funny. Some twenty years later, Radio Shack printed the first ever catalogue, a tradition which was kept up to this very day. The company expanded until in the sixties hard times forced a sale to Charles Tandy, whose parent company, the Tandy Corporation, owned Radio Shack for almost forty years. Expansion went on during that time, and it was these forty years which established Radio Shack as a household name. The most popular product ever to come under a Radio Shack logo was the TRS-80 and the TRS-80 Color, a personal computer which is believed to be the first to go into mass production. Recent downsizing created some controversy, but Radio Shack is still one of the most popular stores in the United States and affiliated abroad operations.

The history of Radio Shack metal detectors is easily explained. Radio Shack is providing everything there is in existence and related to electronics. When the management decided to provide metal detectors in their line, the best of the best was contacted for partnership purposes. First Texas, a prominent metal detector manufacturer who produces the famous Bounty Hunter line of metal detectors, but is also responsible for the Titan series, solely distributed by the Kellyco Company, agreed to provide Radio Shack with their own line of metal detectors. In addition to that, the whole line of Bounty Hunter metal detectors has been added to the stock, as well as the metal detectors manufactured by the camping equipment manufacturer Famous Trails.
Radio Shack models are popular predominantly because of the very low price. The units themselves are built from discontinued Bounty Hunter models, featuring some minor improvements. Nevertheless, these models are very powerful units which do cost much less than when they were featured in the Bounty Hunter line. At some point, Radio Shack was offering special discount prices on metal detecting units which were being discontinued, whereby the lowest price recorded was $29.99 for a $129.99 regularly priced unit. The reason for the extremely low prices was probably the closing of the as many as 500 retail stores during the downsizing move Radio Shack experienced in the recent history. Every fifth employee was let go, with a termination notice of as short as one week.
